Michigan Legislators voted to make cuts to the Promise Scholarship last week.

The program that started in 2006 provides $4,000 to approximately 70,000 students that attend college in the state.

Originally promoted as a way to increase the number of people who would attend figures over the past 3 years show only a slight improvement.Almost all of the money went to students who would have attended college with or without the scholarship.

Unemployment figures are in for May 2009 and as expected there is no good news to tell.

The US Department of Labor found that all Metropolitan areas in the 372 cities that they study had larger then hoped for increases in joblessness.

US Unemployment has risen by over 500,000 people each month for the first half of the year.

Some cities are reporting double digit unemployment while the hardest hit are now closing in on a 20% figure.
