Indira Sadikovic, a Behr spokesperson, said closing the plant is now an option, but would not say when a decision would be made. She said they are waiting to hear from the union to schedule a meeting to discuss what will happen next.

She said the proposed health plan would have covered employees at 100 percent for the first $3,200 of individual expenses and the first $6,400 of family expenses through a company-funded Health Reimbursement Arrangement.

In a statement, IUE-CWA President Jim Clark said he was not surprised members rejected the latest offer.

If the Health Care Plan now being adopted by Congress is passed Behr will be allowed to drop coverage on all of its workers and force individuals to purchase their own plan.

If an Employer does not provide Health Care solutions for their employees they will pay a percentage of their income to the government and each individual employee will be required by law to purchase their own plan.

This may cost individuals as much as $8,000 to $12,000 a year for individual coverage and over $20,000 for family coverage.

On the other hand it would alleviate the cost of providing coverage by Behr and meet government guidelines.
