Microsoft began its first ever series of layoffs. The company announced layoffs earlier this year. Approximately 3500 jobs will be cut in the next year.

Reports say that 1500 jobs will be cut in Washington State with more around the USA in newly purchased businesses including Game development and VOIP services.

Microsoft’s .NET software development will also see cuts and the project will change to an open source type model where users supply more of the code.

There have been no reports about cuts in Microsoft’s India Locations but about 150 jobs will be cut in Ireland.
