While the students that attend State Colleges and Universities are having the hardest economic times right now many institutions are planning hefty increases next season.
Now you have to understand that just like everyone else professors and staff at public institutions need to have an adjusted increase to match inflation but most institutions have recieved an average increase that is double or tripple what most people out in the real world get.
Saginaw Valley State University approved a 3.7 percent for next year and maybe that is valid but when other institutions are charging an average of 5% to 10% more each and every year the rate increases mean fewer students that need to attend state colleges can afford it.
Not so many years ago before the 1980’s almost every State School in America was affordable enough that a parent could send a child and not have to take out a loan.
In the 1990’s State Institutions started to request the same salaries as private institutions. This is way out of line considering most state run institutions can not compete with private institutions when it comes to placement of graduating students.
In the past month the following schools have approved increases and country wide the average increase is 7% which is double inflation and more then most of us will get at our own jobs.
