Forest Service Internships And Employment

Tags: Internships

The Forest Service offers a host of opportunities for part-time and temporary employment for students. We also offer internships, student opportunities and scholarships for promising student candidates.

Two Forest Service Programs, the Student Temporary Employment Program (STEP) and the Student Career Experience Program (SCEP) provide unparalleled opportunities for you to learn what it’s like to work for the Forest Service, while gaining valuable first-hand work experience and earning money.

The Student Temporary Employment Program (STEP) allows college students like you to combine your academic studies with on-the-job experience. You’ll work with Forest Service professionals while you earn money. The work you choose doesn’t need to be related to your academic or career goals, and you can work part time when school is in session and/or full time during school break.

The Student Career Experience Program (SCEP) is the Forest Service’s primary source for external recruitment of entry-level hires within the Forest Service. SCEP gives you valuable work experience that is directly related to what you’re studying - or your career goals. As a result of participation in SCEP, you may be non-competitively converted to career, term, or career-conditional appointments within the Forest Service. For information about student employment with the Forest Service, ask your academic advisor or contact a local Forest Service unit.
