The George Washington University, Columbian School of Arts and Sciences, Museum Studies Internship Program. (Library of Congress, Interpretive Programs Office, Internship Site)
The George Washington University, Columbian School of Arts and Sciences, Museum Studies Internship Program is a cooperative effort with The Library of Congress, Interpretive Programs Office, IPO. IPO would like the exhibit internship to be a rewarding experience for the candidate. Our office expects that the intern will apply and adapt what she or she has learned in the classroom and in the professional realm to their assignments and to discuss any ideas openly and freely with the staff. Instruction and supervision will be provided for all assignments. After an initial orientation of the Library, which includes a tour of all three buildings, exhibition sites, reading rooms, and an introduction to selected staff members and curators, the intern will be expected to work independently on all assignments. Our expectation for this internship is as follows:- To give the intern an overview of the complexities of a library-based exhibit program;
- To have the intern provide a weekly report of activities and assignments;
- To have the intern participate in staff meetings;
- To involve the intern with at least two exhibitions;
- To have the intern participate in the production and installation of a Library of Congress exhibition;
- To have the student research items to be included in the American Treasures of the Library of Congress exhibition, the Library???s changing but ongoing exhibition;
- To have the intern participate in Library programs that will enhance his or her experience (this may include Treasure Talks, special programs, docent training, and exhibition tours);
- To review the Library of Congress website, including components of the Exhibition Page; and
- To have the intern evaluate the exhibit internship program upon completion.
If you are accepted, you will participate in this program for 13 week(s).
