A crowd of mostly immigrant high school and college students rallied at the University of Maryland campus Monday in support of legislation that would provide in-state tuition to illegal immigrants who graduate from a Maryland high school.

University of Maryland base tuition is $23,000 while in-state tuition is $8,000. Community College Students in the state pay Approximately $4,000 while nonresidents pay $7,500.

Tuition Discounts for In-State Students is due to the collection of real estate taxes that are not payed by Illegal Immigrants.

State Representatives say that to cover the additional number of students that are in the State illegally would require taxes to be raised 1.3 million dollars within the next 5 years on all legal residents in the State.
