Walmart to Layoff its Clothing Division

In a move to reduce costs Walmart one of the largest importers of foreign made clothing has decided to layoff their Apparel Division in Arkansan and move the remaining staff to New York City.

Walmart has been well known for its Arkansan roots and this move to New York seems to be a desperate way to reduce costs from weak sales of clothing. Walmart is not alone in weak apparel sales … Sears / Kmart has also gone through a tough fall and winter clothing line turnover with the retailer deciding to keep inventory instead of lowering prices.

With over 5,000 stores and 30 Billion dollars in retail apparel sales each year Walmart is definitely a market indicator for what we can expect from this sector.

If people can’t afford to buy discount imported goods at Walmart our economy is definitely seeing some pain.
