Lower the hoped for final week preholiday sales have had an effect on retail profits. Macy’s, Dilards, JC Penney and Home Depot have announced dramatic slashes in prices trying to extend the holiday buying season.

This announcement has seen declines of over 10 in the S&P Retail Index since November.

Fuel Prices are said to be the culpret as increases in shipping has caused surges not only in holiday gift purchases but also food.
