After a few years of taking a back seat or at least a less visible view Microsoft’s Bill Gates will be leaving to enjoy the money he has earned.

At just over 60 Billion dollars Gates has been at the top of the richest people in the world for some time and what lead him to that position was the introduction of Microsoft MS-DOS in the early 1980’s.

It seems the person that will initially take the reins will be one of the writers of that code.

Tim Paterson who developed the operating system and then sold it to Microsoft for $50,000 never saw the huge money returns in his work but now he will be heading the company that his code built.

What changes will this have on the company?
We will just have to wait and see but the releases of operating systems and software has been on the decline for some time as customers find that the systems they bought a few years ago are good enough for most entertainment and work.

Microsoft has recently decided to continue the patches for Windows XP after realization that customers were not adopting its new operating system.

This is due more to the fact that customers are for the most part satisfied with what they have and other then Gamers or Professionals the need for upgrades is not as important.

Adoption of other operating systems such as the Mac/BSD operating system or Linux and BSD is really not a part in the stagnation of computer sales but the transition of our television broadcasting signals from NTSC to HD and the costs for each home to upgrade their Televisions and Cable TV subscriptions to Digital could be offsetting any investment in the Home Computer Market as most people just can’t live without American Idol.

If every Tv in the home either needs a $75 Converter box or total replacement then something has to give in its place.

Well we wish Mr Patterson all the best in his new job and hope that he still has a few tricks left up his sleeve.
